ACROSS TOWN, IN A COURTYARD cafe inside a small shopping mall, Officer Joe Gibbs was enjoying a double espresso while watching Suzie Labrey get her hair done in a salon across the way. The mall was busy on this late morning, shoppers wandering by juggling packages and kids, going in and out of stores. He had to admit, this was one hella of an enjoyable assignment, guarding a cute stripper with great boobs. Joe was dressed in his normal street clothes, tan dress slacks, a blue chambray work shirt and tie, and a dark brown sport coat, his idea of the well-dressed look of the young hip male. Gibbs was what a lot of women would consider handsome. He was five feet nine, and about a hundred eighty pounds of weight room muscle. Dark brown, almost black wavy hair worn medium length but neatly trimmed just over the ears, blue eyes and aquiline nose. At that moment a couple of rent-a-cops came strolling down the wide marble tiled expanse and just as they came abreast of him, he heard a loud scream, a shrill womanâs scream that seemed to be coming from.... It was Suzie, she was screaming at the top of her lungs and pointing at him. The rent-a-cops were immediately on him, spilling his coffee as they pulled him up and braced his hands behind his back. The older of the two, a large chunky man of forty quickly frisked him. Removed the gun in the small of his back. Suzie was out of her chair and coming towards them, pointing and shouting, âThatâs him. Thatâs the guy thatâs been stalking me, following me around for five days now,â heatedly. The other security guard, a gangly man of about thirty said, âIs that right sir, have you been following the lady?â Gibbs looking slightly perturbed that his cover was blown, sheepishly said. âYeah, I've been following the lady... for her protection. I'm a cop, my identifications in my right rear pocket.â The burly guard fished the wallet out of his pocket and held it up. âHe's right Pete, he's LVPD.â They released him. Suzieâs mouth dropped open and her green eyes went wide. âYou were at the club the other night watching me dance, and again this morning when I went for breakfast. I thought you...I thought, Oh God,â The older guard said, âAre we okay here you two...miss?â Suzie nodded. Gibbs said, âGood job guys,â They released him and walked on down the concourse. Gibbs straightened his clothes and stood awkwardly silent for a minute while the crowd returned to their normal activities. âWas I that easy to spot?â Gibbs asked.
Suzie smiled with relief. âWell, not many guys follow me around with their tongues hanging out,â
âJoe Gibbs,â offering his hand. âCan I buy you a cup of coffee?â Nodding back over his shoulder to the well-known coffee franchise where heâd been sitting. âSuzie Labrey, but I guess you knew that,â taking his hand. âI hate this joint,
