“The lords will hear you, girl. Speak to them.”

Young Vorem had always stared at the sky. Whether it rained and poured or shone like lighting and gold. She had never heard these words before, yet they felt so heavy and real to her now. Who are these lords she speaks of? The woman with scarlet red hair, red as blood. How can they hear her if they were not present? What odd advice, words to showcase their power, she was sure. Do they hate magic as well? She wondered… she pondered upon the memory as if it were her own, a memory given to her from a dream long ago.

Whoever the woman spoke to was looking to the sky as well when spoken to. As large flocks of birds traveled beneath the clear white clouds that covered the sky with ease throughout the day. It was peaceful, she recalled thinking while she watched through the young one’s eyes. So very peaceful. When the rest of the world is far from it. The girl who liked fire, how could she ever forget a dream that allowed her to taste such peaceful times?

Vorem awoke to silence. Opened her eyes to darkness. Was it still night? She did not remember returning home. She shook her head, waiting for the rust of sleep to fall, and the blur of her morning eyes to fade. It was dark, but not pitch black. She could still see little in the shadows, was this her room, or someone else’s?

She moved to sit upward, just as usual only to pause as the gentle rattle of metal could be heard around her. She was not in her bed. And the rain, it was gone.

Move.

There was a moment of confusion in her that stirred. She thought she would be standing by now, breaking free and leaping for escape. And if not, then she would not stop pulling and pulling until she was free. No matter how much her skin burned, she would ignore the pain as if it could not be felt. As her heartbeat thrummed in her ear like the hoofs of a hundred wild steeds. Pounding and pounding and pounding until she had no more strength to pull again.

Move!

But that did not happen. Here, she still sat, yet to move a single muscle while her heart still ran like the winds. When she did move, it was a small and feeble ways forward, and still more than enough to lock her limbs in place. Then she could feel the weight of the chains clamped around both her wrists and ankles.

Run, Vor’ldem. Please.

“Hello there,” someone said softly, his voice low and calm as the waters of Kors. “It is good to finally meet you, V.” Her eyes moved through the darkness, and somehow found him immediately. He was far closer than expected, no more than a reach away, sending a shiver through her entire being when his voice found her ear. She could not make out his face, only the thin outline of his silhouette sitting before her, beside her.
