‘But where’s the car?’ Katherine chewed on her bottom lip, sending the usual spike of adrenaline straight into Conall’s gut. Not good when he had to negotiate Parisian traffic while she clung on to him for dear life.

Conall mounted the gleaming vintage Harley-Davidson he’d had delivered to the hotel an hour ago—as soon as he’d called off the rest of the day’s meetings, knowing he had been struggling to focus all morning and was not going to be able to stay away from Katherine for another twenty-five minutes, let alone four hours.

Perhaps it was indulgent and reckless, but he’d been rewarded when he’d walked into the exclusive boutique, where his last two girlfriends had enjoyed shopping, and had seen the woman he was taking to the ball tonight in all her glory.

She’d looked stunning in the figure-hugging gown... He’d pay a million euros to escort her in that dress tonight, let alone one hundred and fifty thousand. And a million more to ease her out of it later.

He cut off the rampant direction of his thoughts with an effort.

Not the time.

First, he had to give her the tour of Paris he’d offered her. Why hadn’t he just suggested going back to the hotel? But something had stopped him. Even though he knew, from last night’s kiss and the flushed determination on her face after it, she was more than willing...

Something he wasn’t quite sure of. Maybe it was the surprising way she’d reacted to his perfectly reasonable decision to pay for the gown. Or the way she was now chewing her delectable bottom lip, as she stared at the bike as if he were asking her to ride a fire-breathing dragon.

‘But I’ve never ridden on a motorbike before,’ she murmured, raising her panicked gaze to his.

He had to choke back a laugh at her look of concern. ‘It’s perfectly safe. And the best way to see Paris when we’re this close to rush hour.’

After straddling it, he adjusted the clutch, flicked up the stand and stamped down on the ignition peddle. The bike roared to life, making Katherine jump.

He grinned. He couldn’t help it, this was going to be fun. And when was the last time he’d had fun with a woman, or anybody, for that matter? His life had been so damn serious and focussed for so long, but there was something about Katherine Hamilton—her eagerness, her earnestness, but also her determination and guts—that made him want to show her Paris his way. Because he knew she’d appreciate it.

He grabbed a helmet from the bike’s saddle bag and lobbed it to her. She caught it instinctively. ‘Put that on and climb aboard.’

‘But...’ She glanced down at the helmet. ‘The stylist spent an hour this morning doing my hair for the ball,’ she managed.

He studied her hair. The curls had been scrunched in some concoction and arranged to halo around her head in artful disarray. The do was great, drawing attention to her peach-soft skin, high cheekbones and those eyes—now wide with panic and astonishment, but also curiosity and excitement.
