I fall back on the bed with a huge exhale of air. My mind is going a million miles a minute as I relive what just happened. I wasn’t expecting that. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. Nikolai wants me. I mean, that’s not a huge surprise, but I think he wants to keep me.

And, I kind of want him to.

I’ve never felt like this before. My heart is still racing in my chest and my body is on fire. As great as it is, though, I need to get back to Georgia. I don’t have a choice. Niko doesn’t understand about my stepfather, but I’ll have to tell him. I’m afraid if I don’t go back, he’ll make my mother pay for it. I’m not close with my mother, but I don’t want to be the reason that he hits her.

My stepfather is controlling with an edge of violence that intimidates me. I’d leave completely and never look back if not for my mother. She hasn’t been the greatest parent, but she’s still my mom and she’s provided for me, kept a roof over my head.

Thinking about it depresses me, so I get up and take a shower. I do my best not to relive what happened with me and Niko while in the shower. I was left hanging. I didn’t get to come, but without Niko, finishing myself off has no appeal. In the past I’ve masturbated, and at the time I thought it felt good. Niko definitely blew that misconception out of the water.

I wrap a towel around my body and then decide to check out this closet that Niko told me had clothes he bought for me. When I open it, I’m pretty sure I stop breathing. Inside there are dresses, the likes I’ve never seen and since George likes to make sure his friends think he has money—while using me to distract some of the men, he gets me the latest designer gowns. His are definitely on the risqué side, too which are different from the ones I’m looking at now. I’ve never seen dresses as beautiful as the ones in this closet. They’re definitely sexy, but they’re more refined, meant to tease instead of going for the gusto all at once. There are two red dresses, just like Niko said, but there are also at least six others and the colors are all colors that I tend to gravitate toward—black, green, and silver. A strange, fluttery sensation moves through me.

Niko said he knew me. He said he’d been planning this since my birthday. I didn’t truly believe him, but can it be a coincidence that these dresses are styles I’d choose? Colors—with the exception of the red—that I’d buy myself? There are more bikinis and a couple of one-piece bathing suits, some capris and pants with coordinating shirts and every one of the items have the tags hanging on them, proving no one else has ever worn them.

There is now not one single doubt in my mind that Niko was telling the truth.
