The sky, raven black and creepy, “Boom, boom, boom,” treated onlookers to nature’s soggy miracle in New York Harbor. Lightning strikes slammed the saltwater, the shore, and diverse places. Juan, Maria, and Diaz cowered beneath the ship’s overhang and peered the vessel slide into port. In one hour, the ship rambled alongside the pier and the sky cleared within a minute. Maria said, “A remarkable sign Juan, god interceded on our side.”

Juan studied his refreshing country on 4 August 1845. I envision our lives transform forever. He haunted Mortimer and introduced Maria and Diego. Mortimer introduced Juan to his son, whom he dubbed Junior. Junior Mortimer mimicked his father. The same coarse nose and cuddly mouth. He polished his acorn-brown hair sharp and scented. Junior's eyes flashed mud brown as opposed to his father’s nutmeg. The men discussed general enterprise and investment trends. Mortimer suspected whaling achieved its apex.

“I advocate you peddle your whalers and acquire cargo ships,” Bruce said.

“I approve and prevail thrilled with my investments.”

“With the added pesos and dollars, you enter America as a wealthy man.” The rant shifted to politics. “Investors fret President Polk possesses designs on California. You reckon Mexico fights for its territory?”

Juan said, “Each year delivers a fresh leader, and the government loiters corrupt. Mexicans preserve anger at the Texas and California argument. Mexico intends to evade war if the liberals survive in power. The politicians favor war if Santa Anna reestablishes. If it materializes, they request he lead the war and I predict he mandates I campaign with him.”

Junior said, “Juan?”

“He prevails powerful with an extended span. I affirm nothing definitive.”

Bruce said, “The information you shared aids me to sketch allocation strategies for investment portfolios.” Juan’s eyebrows elevated and he pulled his head back, and Mortimer chastened further. “Anticipate Juan, analyze the prime investments in wartime. They include textiles for manufacturers, wagons, and ships for military transport, arms, and commodities. I discerned a prosperous opportunity for you, please visit Samuel Colt. He controls a pistol and rifle manufacturing plant in New Jersey. He plans five plants. You unearth a remarkable investment opportunity with him.”

The next day Juan, Maria, and Diego maneuvered to New London and disembarked early afternoon. The cool sea breeze surrendered to the hot inland. Juan licked the salt from his lips and assisted Maria into the rental horse drawn. The carriage rumbled for fifteen minutes. Maria glanced at the compound and moisture formed in her eyes. Juan aided her from the carriage, and Maria sunk and kissed the ground. She rubbed the tears from her face.

“Juan, I love it. We initiate our new life here in America.” The house dazzled atop the hill and allocated appetizing panoramas. It spanned two stories and contained twelve rooms. The design favored the colonial style with stone, brick, and wood. Oversize stark-white pillars outlined the front. It wielded a circular drive and accommodated two carriages. The lawn enveloped five acres, and mammoth oaks abounded throughout. Guest houses, each a different size, nestled in place.
