A piebald ball python is quite a headturner, its “islands” of normal color and pattern standing out in sharp contrast against the white background.

The stark yellow and white of an albino ball and the pure white and pied pattern of the piebald ball python stand out in sharp contrast to their litter mates with the darker, normal pattern. These morphs are easy to distinguish, yet other morphs have more subtle differences that at first may not be apparent to the untrained eye. But with practice and a developed skill to spot the abnormalities, you will notice these animals even after many people, including hard-core enthusiasts, have picked through them. I personally witnessed the discovery of a woma tiger ball, one of the most sought-after morphs, at a large reptile expo. The rare snake had apparently been overlooked by many pairs of eyes before someone saw and recognized it on a seller’s table. These discoveries add an additional level of pleasure to an already exciting hobby, especially when the snake can be purchased for nearly the same price as a normally patterned ball python. I have personally found yellowbellies, granites, harlequins, and pastel jungles that the sellers simply labeled “nice,” “odd,” or “special” ball pythons and priced them only slightly higher than a normal ball.
