Chapter 12

Wolf found himself staring at the weight bar on the bench press. This familiar routine always brought about a moment of contemplation. Should he challenge himself further by adding more weights, pushing his limits, or opting for the endurance route and focusing on increasing the number of reps with the current weight load? Mimic, running on the neighboring giant treadmill, observed Wolf with a hint of amusement - she found his indecisiveness intriguing and almost endearing. Finally, Wolf adjusted the weights by adding 10 pounds on each side and settling onto the bench press's platform.

His hands firmly gripped the barbell, and he lifted it off the rack, feeling the familiar weight press against his chest as he meticulously controlled the descent. He allowed the barbell to graze his chest before powering it back up with a controlled explosion of force. Each full extension was a testament to his dedication and commitment, the rhythmic motion of lowering and lifting the barbell becoming almost meditative. Mimic watched on, impressed by the discipline and determination displayed by Wolf in his meticulously executed workout routine.

“Fucken-eh! Now that gets tha blood a-pumpin’! Mimic, you need to get on this shit right here.” Wolf says excitedly as he flexes his arms.

"I'm good, and you know me; I don't want to bulk up. You're the strong one, and I'm the agile one; that's why we make such a great...." She pauses and curiously looks around. "Did you hear that noise?"

Wolf stops and listens for a second. “I didn’t hear nothin’.” Shortly after he responds, they both hear the faint sound of a cat’s meow. “Am I workin’ out too hard, or is there a fucken cat in here?”

"I thought that's what I heard! How does a cat get in here without tripping any alarms or alerting any security measures we have set up?"

“Cuz cats are from hell! I'm gonna go look fer it, you comin’?”

As Wolf stands up and straightens out his tank top, Mimic stops the treadmill and looks at him. "You bet I am. Something isn't right here. There's no way a cat could have just walked in without anyone knowing about it."

Wolf and Mimic left the small workout area and started walking down the main hallway towards the dorms, listening for the cat that had snuck into their base. They cleared each section before moving on. When they made their way past Nora's room, they suddenly heard a faint meow ahead of them. Running up the hallway, they found nothing was there, and suddenly, everything was quiet again.

“What tha fuck? Someone must be playin' a joke on us, man.” Wolf paces back and forth in the hallway before continuing, “This shit is gettin’ annoyin’ as hell.” He leans in closer to Mimic as if telling a secret. “I betcha there is no damn cat, and they’re all somewhere watchin’ us on TV laughing their asses off!”

"Wolf, let's just keep looking. If we don't find anything and keep hearing that noise, we must get everyone together and figure this out as a team.
