Limit Distractions

As with any training, getting your learner to focus on using the buttons means limiting outside influences, which could distract them. Keeping the noise level, such as that from the TV or music, turned down or off and avoiding trying to teach them during a busy time of day will ensure they absorb more of what you show them. This will also help you, the teacher, to stay focused and keep track of their progress.

Make sure your learner isn’t hungry, sleepy, or thirsty, and that they don’t need to go outside, as these could all be distractions as well. Meet your learner’s basic needs and keep training sessions short. This will help them stay focused and retain more of what you are modeling.
