Chapter Five

They’d showered and breakfasted and now were back in his SUV with most of the day still in front of them.

“So is there anything you want to see or do? Aside from me, of course.”

“I didn’t make any plans, no. I just came… I mean, I just showed up.”

Peter grinned. God, he liked Christian. A whole lot. “Well let’s see what we can do about having you come again, huh?”

“Yeah, yeah. What do you do in your free time?”

“Lately I’ve been talking to this soldier online.”

Christian pinked, but shot him a smile and played along. “No shit? I hear that’s dangerous shit.”

“Oh, no, this guy I’m talking to is a good guy. A really good guy.”

“They’re supposed to be heroes, right?”

“They are. And this guy is. But there’s more to him than just being a hero. So much more.”

He wanted to be the one Christian could lean on, could trust.

He smiled at Christian, still not starting the car. A good discussion was a great destination of its own. “Being a hero doesn’t mean being perfect or not scared or anything like that.”

“Being a hero is fucking overrated. Sometimes you just want to…stop.”

“That’s what you’re here for, eh?” He reached over and put his hand on Christian’s thigh. The muscle beneath his palm was warm, strong, sexy as hell.

“To stop? I guess. I’m here for you.”

“Which works out well, because I’m here for you.” He squeezed Christian’s thigh. “I can help you find what you need. I’m going to.”

“What about what you need, man?”

“I need to help you. I need a sub, someone who needs me the way you do.” He squeezed Christian’s leg again. “Trust me, I’m getting as much out of this as you are.” He wasn’t being altruistic or anything.

He wanted to tear Christian up, to teach Christian everything he knew, then learn new things together.

“So, as you don’t have anything you want to do, and the only thing I want to do is right here next to me, I suggest we go home and fuck our brains out.”

“Yeah. Yeah, I can get into that.”

“I thought maybe you could.” He gave Christian’s leg one last squeeze, then turned over the engine and pulled into the flow of traffic.

“This place is beautiful, you know? So busy.”

That surprised him a little bit, because he always assumed people from quieter, smaller towns would find the city overwhelming.

“Yeah? You like it?” He was pleased. If Christian hated it here, it would make it harder to convince him to come stay when he mustered out.

“I do, yeah. It’s very alive, you know?” A car backfired and Christian jerked, hands slapping on the dashboard.

“Just a backfire,” Peter said quietly, giving Christian a warm, reassuring smile.

“Sorry. Sorry.” Christian’s eyes went hooded, cheeks flushed.

He shook his head. “No, you don’t have to apologize for a perfectly normal reaction from a soldier to that noise. There’s no need to be embarrassed.”

“I just… I can’t help it right now.”

“I know. It’s all good.” He pulled up into the garage at his apartment.
