I am a woman of god, and I believe in the power of janampatris and romance written in the stars. But sometimes, it’s up to parents, family, and friends to set the appropriate traps to usher love along.

Chapter 15

Benjamin

Note left in Benjamin’s office

This wedding will be a disaster. I’ll make sure of it.

Benjamin folded the note with magazine letter cutouts that was left at his restaurant earlier that week and tucked it into the outside pocket of his duffel bag. He’d have to talk to Bobbi about it later, considering it was the second note he’d received. The first had been about the fake food menu.

After waving off the driver, he swung the bag over his shoulder and looked up at the Italian villa boutique hotel. Behind the building was the vineyard that stretched for miles. Bright summer blooms grew on vines along trellises, and Juliette balconies were decorated with colorful window boxes.

Finally. Benjamin was in the same place and the same state as Bobbi.

His red-eye had run late, and because of the anticipation, he didn’t sleep. Instead, he’d finished the mafia romance that Bobbi had recommended. That only made him want to get Bobbi naked faster, so the last leg of his flight had included a lot of shifting and fidgeting.

He approached the entrance of the villa with purpose. Bobbi had texted him earlier that she was already in the lobby and she had checked in. All they had to do was go straight to their room.

He stepped through the glass doors into the blast of cold air-conditioning and saw her right away. She stood in the main foyer, a small lavender carry-on at her side. She had her cell in one hand, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. She was talking to a woman with brown hair and a familiar older man wearing a white kitchen coat.

The man spotted Benjamin first. “Chef Padda!” he called out, then in three strides reached Benjamin, hand outstretched.

“Vinny,” Benjamin said. He took the hand and endured the painfully uncoordinated greeting. How could this chef use a damn knife if he didn’t know how to shake hands? “How’s it going?”

“I’m so excited to see you,” Vinny said. He had a whisper of an unfamiliar accent that had been more pronounced on the phone. “We have so much to do in the kitchen. The opportunity to learn from you for our first Indian wedding is huge—”

“Vinny, why don’t you take a breath?” the woman with the brown hair said. She adjusted her dowdy slate-gray skirt suit and extended a hand as well. “Chef, my name is Gwen and I oversee events here at Messina. We’re so glad you and Bobbi can stay with us for a few days and provide some clarity on this wedding in October.” She tugged on the collar of her suit coat as if she were struggling to breathe.

“Gwen is a little nervous because she’ll be the only event coordinator during the wedding
