It was difficult to look at her. It practically hurt.

Something wonderful and scary had happened between them yesterday. He couldn’t explain it, didn’t dare try, but he couldn’t ignore it either.

It pulsed in the air. People stared. He couldn’t take his eyes off her.

And Paige had tolerated the attention until she was at a breaking point. Then she ducked out, yet again.

It was becoming a very bad habit of hers.

Jay stood a few feet away, watching as she hand carried the large garment bag for the beaming lady. Blushing bride?

His chest grew tight at the sight of her. “Paige?”

She stopped abruptly, her long braid swinging. “Jay? What are you doing here?”

“I have something to show you.”

“Here?” Both she and the bride asked.

At his nod, Paige called over an assistant. “Could you please help Ms. Tatum out to her car with her dress? Thanks. I owe you.” She made her goodbyes to the lady and drew near. “Jay?”

“How are you?”

Couldn’t he come up with anything better than that?

Her shrug and glance over her shoulder told him a great deal. “Planning a getaway?” Pink edged into her cheeks, making him smile. “I’ll walk you back.” He tapped the envelope in his hand. “There’s something you should see.”

She of few words shot him a look.

It didn’t take a great deal to twist Marcus’s arm to get him to put in the call for him. In less than an hour, Marcus led him to King’s executive offices, where Jay was allowed to view the photos.

Smoking hot.

But would Paige think the same?

“What’s up, hotshot?” Rico said as they entered the black and hot pink Charmings wedding boutique. “Got anyone for me yet?”

“It slipped my mind, buddy. Here, got a pen?” After Rico handed over a pad and pen, Jay scribbled down an address. “My gym. Meet me there tomorrow. Six sharp.”

“P.M.?”

Chuckling, Jay said, “A.M. You can see for yourself.”

“Beefcake? Yummy! Paige, you can come, too. After all, you and Jay are practically slaying dragons together. It’ll be fun.” There was doubt lingering in the air. “Right?”

“Of course.” Turning to Paige, he shook his head and winced. “You game?”

“I don’t do workouts.” She pointed to the envelope he clasped. “Is that for me? What, may I ask, do you have there?”

He gauged her features. She gave nothing away. How would she react? There was only one way to find out. “You bolted out of the café so fast after the shoot. I tried to catch up with you…” He was making a mess of things. Jay shoved the envelope at her. “Proofs. Of us.”

“Let me see, too!” Rico came around the desk.

Paige, to avoid him, stepped closer to Jay. Her perfume teased him. He inhaled and thought he’d died and gone to heaven. Roses, definitely. Oranges, too? She was petite and would fit snugly against his side. Jay wished he could take her long braid and slowly undo it, feeling the silky texture again. He nearly moaned.

Instead, he put his hand on her waist. To protect her, of course.
