I STEPPED UNDER THE shower and let my brain recall everything Adam said earlier. He said he was falling for me, which was way too hard to believe. I wasn’t even sure if I felt the same. I just wanted to be with him. He was utterly irresistible, but that’s it.

Also, I still worry about Henry. I didn’t know what happened to him. I was still so pissed at him for the show he pulled with Demi, but it was also right to tell him about his brother and me.

After the shower, I came out of the bathroom and slipped on the fresh shirt and jeans—which Adam had provided for me before we came here. I didn’t find him in the room, but I heard voices outside the slightly opened door.

“Just don’t mind her, Adam. She’ll be alright.”

“She won’t, Ed—” Adam stopped as soon as he saw me.

“Adam?” I called. It was Edward and Dominic he was talking to. They all looked at me as if they just saw a ghost.

“What’s going on?” I asked curiously.

“Nothing,” Adam said. “Are you ready for dinner?”

“Sure.” I forced a smile. “But I need to make a call first.”

“Hurry up,” he said, and just like that, he left me alone and walked away with his friends. Why did I suddenly feel that there was something wrong?

I went back into the room, then grabbed my phone. I thought of calling Claire, but I found Megan’s number on my logs and called her instead.

“Hey, Jules? Why are you calling me only now?”

“I’m sorry about the other night. I lost myself again, didn’t I?”

“No. I think you were hilarious.” She laughed, then I heard her munched something crunchy on the other line. “So what’s up?”

“I just really need to talk to someone right now.”

“What’s wrong? Did something happen to you and your hot boss?” she asked curiously.

“Nothing happened—well, something happened, but it’s not what you think. He brought me to his family’s ranch, and he introduced me to everyone.”

“What? He’s getting serious already? Don’t you think he’s rushing this? You just broke up with his brother like two days ago?”

“That’s what I thought too.”

“But not every guy is like that, which is interesting. Paul hasn’t even introduced me to his family yet, but we’ve been together for four years!” She clicked her tongue. “You should consider yourself lucky.”

“Yes, it does seem like he never brought anyone here, but something’s making me uneasy.”

“Hmm...” she sang. “Is that another burst of intuition?”

I shrugged. “I guess.”

“You just started your relationship with him. It’s normal to feel like that. Maybe you’re just intimidated in this whole new set-up between you and your boss. Not to mention you dated his brother first. Don’t worry about it too much and enjoy the moment.”

She was actually right too. Maybe, I was only anxious. “That really helps, Megs.”

“You're welcome. Besides, he’s kinda nice. He didn’t take advantage of you like the dancer.”

Adam didn’t exactly tell me about what happened with that dancer. My memory that night was still fuzzy.
