In the second example, I instructed the patient’s husband to talk about her anxiety around her delusions rather than about the delusions themselves:

Jenny believes that you will be killed because she is a sinner. She always says to me, “Why do they have to kill him? I am the one who is bad.” This delusion makes her very anxious, but she does not want to take medications that will help reduce its intensity. You may be able to convince her to take the medication not because she is “sick” but because the medications will help her worry less about you and help you worry less about her.
