After Wildwood resort closed in 1901, the Dinky trolley line was rerouted directly up Carroll Avenue to the Adventist hospital and the college on Sligo Creek. The small cars (out-of-date hand-me-downs from other trolley lines) were beloved by the students, who counted on them for a quick ride to town. (Courtesy of Washington Adventist University.)

Maryland governor Albert Ritchie was on hand along with thousands of spectators on April 16, 1932, to dedicate the new Sligo Creek Bridge, a three-lane concrete span costing $60,000. The bridge provided a convenient and scenic amenity for motorists and pedestrians traveling to the hospital, the campus, and along the Sligo Creek Parkway, and it remains so today.
