Chapter Eighteen

They finished the morning pod meeting and went back to stare at the victim board. The questions were taking up more space than the facts, and that really pissed Maddox off.

Tristan glanced up from his computer. “You look like you’re thinking really hard.”

“I just had an unpleasant thought. I was thinking about what was said the other night about someone taking eyeballs. First of all, eyeballs are gross. Second, that’s just wrong. Eyes are the windows to the soul. You can’t take those from another person.” Maddox shivered.

“You are so fucking weird sometimes.” Tristan shook his head with a laugh.

“My weirdness is part of my charm… accept that now.” He gave him a cheeky smile.

Tristan’s computer beeped. “Nice. The queries are coming back already. And we have a potential breakthrough. St. Bernadette’s Hospital reported missing equipment and medication.”

Maddox glanced over his shoulder. “Nice. We definitely need to follow up on that. Keep searching. We’re finally getting somewhere.”

Commotion in the pod area had them racing over to the door. Maddox popped his head out and saw most of the team strapping on vests. “What’s happening?”

Jasmina smiled excitedly. “We have a positive ID on our dragon perp. We’re going to raid the warehouse.”

Maddox and Tristan glanced at each other and then looked at Vic. “Need a couple of extra hands? Our reports aren’t changing. We could use the change of scenery.”

Finneas walked out of the equipment locker area. “What a great idea. Vic, you should definitely let them come along.”

Maddox ignored the Fae and continued waiting for Vic to respond.

Vic shrugged. “Yeah, come on. If we don’t get one of them soon, the director is going to start calling for heads.”

Tristan fist pumped the air, “Yes, action.”

Maddox waved him to follow him. “Let’s get you some tactical gear. We all know you love having P.I.S. all over you.”

“I fucking hate you.” Tristan fumed as he stomped out of their office toward the locker. “Stupid ass name. I swear for such intelligent people you think they’d have come up with something with a better acronym.”

“Well, they were going to do the Association of Shifters and Supernaturals, but that seemed worse.”

“A.S.S… Yeah, there is something seriously wrong with the powers that be. Or maybe they were trying to tell the world something with P.I.S. and ASS..”

Vic rolled his eyes at Maddox. “Would you stop making shit up? You make us sound like idiots.”

Tristan spun around and gaped at Maddox, “You are such an ass. I can’t believe the lies you tell with a straight face and to me, your boyfriend. That’s just wrong.”

Maddox walked up so he was face to face with him. “I’m sorry, honey. I promise not to do that anymore.” He bit his cheek to keep from laughing.

“You suck. You just lied about lying.” Tristan shook his head and turned to Vic. “What is this world coming to when you can’t even trust your partner?”

Vic shrugged and walked out of the area. Maddox grabbed Tristan’s elbow and pulled him against him.
