After finishing breakfast and getting dressed they gathered around the kitchen table. Sophie kept her distance from his two human roommates. Korban watched her movements, still calculated and a bit stiff, and could hear the rush of her pulse. He wasn’t sure if it was because she was just being overly cautious at the moment or if it was her nerves. After all, they were in the middle of discussing breaking and entering her home. RJ’s frown kept growing with every passing moment.

Alex, on the other hand, was grinning eagerly. “So finally we get to plan an undercover mission! I haven’t been this stoked since plotting our Senior prank.”

This did nothing to improve RJ’s mood. “Hopefully this will go over much better than that. Considering most of us were caught and nearly expelled.”

“They never would have kicked you out, Golden Boy,” Alex waved his hand. “Anyway, I have a few ideas. Sophie is obviously familiar with the area, so maybe she can lay it out for us. Then we can plan our attack from there.”

Sophie gazed down and it was Korban’s turn to frown. “Look Alex I know you want to help but please try to be considerate. This is Sophie’s home we’re talking about, not just some place she’s familiar with.”

Alex’s expression turned serious, which startled him. “I know that, but it’s also a dangerous place for her to be now. If they find out she survived that attack, our element of surprise will be gone and put us at a grave disadvantage, no pun intended. Whoever did set her up must have powerful means to an end, and we don’t want to see what else they could be capable of if they find out their first plan failed.”

Even RJ’s jaw had dropped open. “Sometimes you really surprise me,” Korban blurted and flashed him an impressed smile.

Alex beamed but it was brief. “Watching a lot of action movies pays off. Anyway, we have someone who knows the area very well. We just need a good time so that you two won’t get caught sneaking around in there so you can be in and out.” His tone softened when he gazed to Sophie. “I’m sorry you have to do this. Right now, though, your home is not safe. And there is always the possibility that someone who is within those walls is the brains behind your attack.”

“It’s okay,” Sophie glances to Alex, careful not to meet his eyes. “I want to find out who did this, and my home is where we have to start looking for answers. Lucas is at the office all day, and Danny,” a pained expression spread across her face, “he’s in school. It would probably be best to go in before lunchtime in case he has a half day.”

“Would anyone else be there during the day?” Alex asked.

Sophie thought for a moment, then said, “No one but the cleaning crew, and they only come two, maybe three times a week.”

Alex’s grin widened. “Perfect. I think I have just the plan.
