Chapter-Fourteen

AS ETHAN AND ROGELIO stepped onto the second level of Ms. Cassidyn’s home, a look of panic registered across the teacher’s face before she could hide it. Eyes wide, she stood from the bed, slow and steady as if not to make any sudden movements.

A smile crept along Rogelio’s lips. “Aw, Talia Cassidyn, you’re as beautiful as they say.” His voice was sweet and filled with richness and warmth. “I myself feel unworthy of being in your presence.”

The teacher glared into Rogelio’s conceited eyes. “Cut the flattery! How did you get past my wards demon?”

Rogelio grinned ignoring the question. “Your spectral sight is exquisite.”

“Spectral Sight?” Ethan asked quizzically.

“It’s a curse the Cassidyn bloodline is born with. It allows us to see supernatural things that are normally invisible to humans and see demon’s true faces.” The teacher pointed at Rogelio. “This one is truly ugly.”

Rogelio brought his hand up to his chest and scoffed in mock horror. “My dear sweet woman there is no need for name calling. I’m actually here to ask you for help.”

“What makes you think I will help a demon?” the teacher snapped tersely.

Rogelio tutted. “You weren’t exactly my first choice. That Honor belongs to Alexander Ashwood...but when I arrived at the mansion the great archdemon himself was fast asleep. Which is odd because the sleeping spell doesn’t affect the supernaturals.” Rogelio paused looking around as if he expected one of the others to provide him with an answer. When everyone stared back blankly, he continued with. “I even tried to rally a few of the local supernaturals, but everyone is so afraid of those damn witches and werewolves.”

Declan laughed heartlessly, looking up at Rogelio as if he had told the world’s funniest joke. “Who is this colorful clown?”

No-one joined in on his amusement.

Instead, Rogelio glared at him. There was no softness in the gaze only, bubbling hatred, disgust even. And it was enough to make Declan avert his eyes to the concrete foundation.

Melinda was next to hop to her feet staring at Ethan. “Where’s Brianna and the others?”

“They ran off to a floating castle in the sky,” Ethan answered, his voice undaunted.

Melinda’s face went pale as she plopped back onto the love seat. “None of this is a dream is it?”

“Afraid not.” Ms. Cassidyn answered shaking her head.

“But you can fix this right?”

Again, the teacher sadly shook her head.

However, Rogelio chimed in with, “but she has powerful friends that can help.” He looked at Melinda’s pretty face and smiled, looking down at her beneath thin painted on eyebrows.

“Seriously, who are you?” Ethan looked at the teacher awaiting her response.

She sighed turning away from everyone. “Please call me Talia,” she began after a long pause. “I was tasked with keeping an eye on the Darkmore family from the shadows. In fact, I’ve been watching them on and off for years.”

“Who would task you with such a creepy job? " Melinda asked drearily.

Turning to face everyone Talia smiled wearily. “The Dean and elder council at Sacred Cross University.”

Rogelio cut in before Melinda could reply: “Please let her continue.
