isa was tempted to visit her sister when she dropped her father off, but she chose to go home instead. She figured by this time Van should be back. He'd called twice on her cell phone at the restaurant. She ignored the calls and didn't bother to check the messages either. She refused to show anger in front of her father. Misa was confident that she could handle her own affairs, but she wasn't looking forward to seeing Van when she walked in the door.

As she pulled into the garage, a nagging irritability set in at the sight of his car. She got out, opened the door to her loft, and marched up the stairs. She didn't call his name. When she walked into the bedroom, he appeared startled and immediately turned around.

“Hey, babe, I missed you.”

“Where have you been since this morning?” She was caught off-guard by his pleasant attitude.

“I know you are not questioning me, are you? The last time I checked we weren't married.”

“That's not the point,” she said as she found her confidence waning.

“Look,” he said as he walked closer to her, “let's not fight. I had to take care of some business.” He grabbed her waist and ran his fingers through her hair. “I thought about you all day.” He gripped her tightly and put his mouth over hers.

Her body went limp at his touch. He felt so warm and comfortable. He picked her up and laid her across the bed. After he kissed her on the neck and tried to slide his hand under her shirt, she pushed his hand away. “Van, I'm not in the mood. I just want to rest.”

He rolled off her and slid close to the headboard. She inched her body backward and slid under his arm to lie across his chest. She raised his ribbed tank top to feel his smooth warm skin against her face. Her slender fingers traced the indention of his stomach muscles. She liked him when he was like this. He was gentle, relaxed, and the only thing she heard was his deep breathing.

He stroked her hair. “Did you get my messages?”

“I was in the restaurant with Dad. We were talking.”

“The next time I call you, I don't care if you are talking to Jesus … you need to answer the phone.” His voice grew heavier. She could sense his chest tightening.

“Van, that's ridiculous. That's my phone and I pay the bill. I'll answer it when I want …” Her last words trailed off.

He paused and his arm started to twitch. “Like I said, the next time you see my name on your ID, answer the phone. I'm sure you won't have any problems doing what I ask.”

Misa ignored his threat and his double standards. She inched farther underneath the weight of his solid build. She wrapped her leg around his thick muscular thigh. His hand reached down to unbutton her pants and pull her zipper down. Misa was still a bit angry with him but sensed her insides getting warm.
