5 Digital Twins Based LCA

5.1 LCA Renewed Framework Under the Auspices of Sustainable and Smart Manufacturing

Analysis of digital twins’ scope of application and in particular in Morocco and analysis of the impact and potential of LCA and in particular dynamic LCA through simulation allowed us to identify several intersection points between the digital twins and the LCA approach for the implementation of the sustainability vision that we have described throughout the previous sections and the strengthening of the eco-economic decoupling within emerging economies aspiring to integrate both smart manufacturing and sustainable development such as that of Morocco [104].

The new framework that we propose through Fig. 8 exposes two essential blocks, the first block is that of dynamic LCA that offers us a continuous and proactive life cycle analysis of environmental, social and economic impacts across three levels of product life cycle, manufacturing systems and value chain life cycles. The LCA method proposed by the standard is reinforced by a number of new building blocks made possible through advanced smart manufacturing technologies. The second block of the framework is the life cycles of the real and virtual physical environment combined with reverse loops reinforcing the circular vision of sustainable development, green production and conscious consumption.
