We file out of the van, meeting with a young blonde woman.

“Kathryn, thank you for letting us use your land,” Davina rushes up and hugs the woman.

“Yes, thank you so much,” I add, trying to be polite.

“Head behind the house, just don’t kill any of my livestock,” she points a finger at us.

“We won’t ma’am,” Vance replies, nodding his head.

We make our way back behind the house to the treeline and start taking our clothes off. Davina flushes and turns her back to us. “Oh, um, I didn’t realize it involved nudity,” she stammers.

“If you want to see us shift, you’ll have to look,” I giggle. “If we tried to shift with our clothes on, we would have to ride back naked.”

She turns back around, eyes cast to the ground. “That makes sense. I don’t know why I didn’t realize that.”

I smile at her before turning back to face the open woods. I close my eyes letting Kylah take over, shifting seamlessly before I take off running, not allowing anyone else time to catch up.

“Amazing,” I hear Davina say breathlessly behind me.

We run, darting around the trees, until I see Jack come up on my left. I slow down and look back. The others are a good way behind us. I convince Kylah to let us stop for a moment and let them catch up. Feeling playful, I bat at Reid, who is the first to reach us. He lowers his head, wiggles his butt, then pounces, knocking me off my paws. We roll around before I give chase. It's amazing to feel the wind against my face, hear the scattering of smaller creatures looking for safe haven, feel the hard ground, smell the fresh bout of rain that will soon make its way over the island. I soak it all in, allowing everything around me to batter my senses. Because the hard reality of it is, I could very well have fallen victim and none of this would happen right now.

It’s fun to just be free and not worry about human things for a while. We exit in a clearing and I lay down, enjoying the sun on my fur, panting to catch my breath.

“We should head back. Not everyone can shift as long as you,” Kylah reminds me.

I huff at her but get to my feet and start back down the path we came from. Halfway there, Reid and I run into the others. They turn around and we amble back to the edge of the woods and shift back.

“I didn’t think you were ever coming back,” Rachael teases, once we’re dressed.

“I could have run longer,” I shrug, “but Kylah was worried about our mates. Can we get something to eat? I’m famished.”

“Shifters really do eat a lot,” Davina says, her eyes wide.

“You have no idea,” I laugh.

We make our way back to the van. The drive back into town seems to go faster, probably because I don’t feel so restless now that Kylah got to run. We stop at a restaurant where my grandma meets me with the crone.
