She ran to the curtain and dug in her claws. “We have to climb to the top so that we can get a better view. Come with me!” She pulled and tugged her way to the top, and Chickpea followed behind. “Don’t look down!”

Up, up, up. They worked their way to the very top of the curtain rod, and Chickpea squealed in shock. “I can’t believe I did that!”

“We can do anything, Chickpea!” Spinach responded. “Now, let’s find those kittens.… Look—over there!”

Atop a table, in a strangely lit box, five tiny faces were peering out at them, crying. “Mew! Mew! Mew!”

Chickpea gasped. “They’re in a box! Who on earth would trap kittens inside of a box, and why?”

“No time to ask questions,” Spinach said, holding out her paw. “Take my paw. Do you believe in yourself?”

Chickpea bit her lip and placed her shaky paw in her friend’s. “I believe in both of us.”

With a countdown of “three, two, one,” they jumped straight out into the room together, soaring through the air.

“Here comes Super Spinach!”

“And Super Chickpea, too!”

Suspended in air, they both felt positively invincible and ready to save the day.

“We’re coming for you, babies! Chickpea, prepare for landing in three… two… one!” Their eight paws slammed against the table as they touched down. They’d made it to the top!

Now that they were closer, they could see that these kittens were in no ordinary box. It was some kind of strange warming machine, covered in colorful buttons, and they were stuck inside. Five tiny noses reached over the edge. Let me-owt! they seemed to cry.

Spinach extended a paw toward the babies, but just before she reached their faces, her paw hit some kind of invisible wall. Tap-tap-tap. She tapped at it with frustration, smooshing her toe beans against the clear partition.

“Holy fish sticks. It’s a forcefield!” Chickpea gasped. “Maybe these buttons can deactivate it?”

Beep! Beep-beep! Beep-beep-beep! Chickpea got to hacking, smacking the buttons with passion.
