In January 2015, black-and-white moggie Bart was found at the side of the road near his home in Tampa. He had been hit by a car. His owner was sure that he was dead so asked a neighbour to bury him. But five days later a matted and injured Bart reappeared, meowing for food. He had a broken jaw, a ruptured eye and tears to his face, as well as being severely dehydrated and hungry, but he was alive. Bart had presumably regained consciousness in his shallow grave and had clawed his way out, despite his injuries. His owner contacted the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the cat was rushed in.
