RIPPLE RIDGE CABIN

Distance 3 km one way to cabin

Elevation gain 200 m

Max elevation 1970 m

Avalanche Terrain Rating Simple

Ripple Ridge Cabin is an easy overnight touring destination. The cabin is managed by the Creston Cross Country Ski Club. There is room for four but you could squeeze in six if they were good friends. There is a heating stove and an axe but no foamies, pots, pans, utensils or dishes. Water is from snowmelt.

Park at the Bridal Lake parking area. Then cross the highway and head up the trail to the south. This trail is actually a wide road that climbs steadily in several long switchbacks, reaching Ripple Pass after about 2 km. Ski through the pass and follow the road for another 400 m, descending gradually. Just before the road swings sharply to the left and descends steeply, cut out to the right into the trees and follow the crest of a ridge for about 300 m to the cabin.

BALDY ROCKS

Distance 3 km

Elevation gain 300 m

Max elevation 2075 m

Avalanche Terrain Rating Challenging

Baldy Rocks is the area you see above the highway buildings on the south side of the road. There is great tree skiing, and playful pillows can be found. You can do laps right from the highway.

To get there, walk across the highway from the parking lot and follow the tour to Ripple Pass (see Ripple Ridge Cabin description here). At the pass, turn left (east) and skin up through the forest to reach the ridge. Continue along the ridge to the top of Baldy Rocks. Beware of cornices.

There are numerous options for descent. The north ridge offers the easiest descent. For longer fall line runs, ski down the north ridge a ways, then drop in to the left.
