Divine Intervention

Ernie once pledged that if he didn’t die or didn’t get sick, he would accomplish what he went after. Ernie never stopped; he kept going, regardless of his challenges.

Everything Ernie did, he did it in faith. If he could perceive it, he believed it. He always thanked God because he had a praying mother. He had a $5000 rejection which was close to total collapse. His mother prayed for him. His business partner said that they should stop acting the fool and stop buying all this junk because God will get tired of hearing his mother’s prayer. They were in an acquisition mode. If they could afford it, they acquired it. His friend Bob who knew Ernie well said that they should get what they needed not what they wanted, not because they could afford it.

When you associate with different levels of people, you automatically in one way or the other will become like them. You have to find someone above your level that you are going to run with because their conversation is different and the way they do things is different.

Ernie is giving back to the black community in many ways. Many people talk about “giving back” to the community. Let’s get real and look this situation in the face. You can only give back something that you have received. Ernie says he is very generous and he has given much to the community. He has lived Dr. Martin Luther King’s principles. He has walked hand in hand in business with his business partner. Both Ernie and Emma, his wife, and his business partner Bob and his wife were a close knit business team. They owned boats, condos, farms and vacation resorts together. Ernie even mentored Bob’s adopted son, with whom they have an ongoing relationship. The greatest thing is that they share the highest degree of honesty and integrity between each other. This justifies the fact that they have lived Dr. King’s dream, “that some day black children and white children will walk hand in hand and travel together”. Bob said that Ernie, his wife Emma and he and his wife have enjoyed the fruits of their labor together. In a sense, they have been pioneers in the realization of MLK’s dream. They had no socio-political reason for making it a campaign issue. It was the beauty of sincere friendship. Nonetheless, if we don’t share; it will be lost in time because it does not carry a lot of drama in our lives, but it will make a big difference in the lives of generations to come.

You have to get in order to give. Ernie’s hope is that this book will create a bridge between what he had done and what is yet to be done by the next generation of people. We know that human understanding is based on the intangible element of honesty and love, neither of which can exist without the other, which confirms the theory of “It takes two hands to clap,” although going in opposite directions hands produce the most known adulation to mankind.
