Gage: Guys, help. I’m having creation ideas above my skill level

Asher: Pfft that’s nothing. I have creation ideas above my motivation level

Cohen: I have them above my free time level

Riggs: I’m suddenly glad I’m not the creative type

Asher: Bragging is unbecoming

Gage: Ash, I will pay you in beer if you come rescue me.

Ash: You tried it anyway, didn’t you?

Gage: To be fair, my life is mostly a collection of poor decisions set to rock music

Ash: OMW

I drove the streets, not really paying much attention to where I was going, just driving my usual patrol route. As I drove, my mind kept going back to Asher and what he’d said this morning about not being comfortable in my own skin yet. He’d made a very good point. Then again, Asher was pretty observant and knew me well, so it wasn’t much of a surprise.

With two gay aunts and multiple gay friends, it wasn’t like I was ignorant about the different orientations. I’d heard enough over the years to have at least the basics down. That said, I wasn’t sure which orientation fit me anymore. Asher, and my desire for Asher, had changed a lot overnight.

What do you even call it when you lusted after your best friend, anyway?

I didn’t think I could call myself gay, not when I’d only wanted one man in my entire life. That didn’t sound right to me. Bisexual, maybe? Did it count as bisexual if I only felt attraction for one man?

Pansexual? Hmm, not sure about that one, either. Surely if I was pansexual, I would have clued in to my attraction to him a lot sooner. It wouldn’t have taken an interesting photoshoot for things to click. Right?

I wasn’t sure what my other options were, really. I also wasn’t sure if I needed a label to put on what I felt for Asher. Would it help me settle in my own skin better or not?

I swung into a gas station, needing a drink and maybe a snack. I took a second to text my sister while I was out of the vehicle, sending a quick invite to lunch. She’d want an update anyway on how things had gone, and maybe she could help me figure this out.

Hey, wanna do lunch?

By the time I’d paid for my snacks, she’d answered. 11? Where?

Diner?

Sure

Good, that was set. Also not long from now, which meant I didn’t have long to stew in my own circular thoughts.

I was a little surprised she hadn’t asked me any further questions, but she was probably saving them for when she saw me in person.

For the next two hours I did routine things. I pulled someone over and gave them a speeding ticket—lunatic was doing twenty over in a residential area—and attended one fender-bender to write up an incident report. By that point, I’d hit lunchtime. Madison and I returned to station and I loaded into my personal car and headed toward the diner.

My sister’s car was already there, and I could see her through the window.
