One more bar. Just one more!

“Yes!” I shout, pulling myself over the last rung of the ladder and then falling to my knees in ecstatic victory.

I turn to the watching crowd, and I give a full bow in response to their whistles and applause. I had just completed an obstacle course meant for full blooded sentinels and I was the third person to finish.

Although I had slightly lagged behind in the rock-climbing and the obstacle course; those had required physical strength, something I wasn’t blessed with, I had made my recovery in the full on sprint and the ladder climbing, shocking even myself with my speed.

Alyssa runs up to me, lifting me up in the air and spinning me around.

“You did it!” She screams and I echo it by letting out a scream of my own.

This felt so good. I had run almost 3 miles in the last lap but I could run 10 more. I felt amazing and I didn’t know how or why, but I wasn’t going to question it.

I receive hugs and congratulations from pack members of different groups. Most of the congratulations come with the recurring question, how?

I look for Williem and I see him far off, a grin threatening to split his face in two. This felt amazing.

Sierra splits off from the group of sentinels watching, and approaches me. Full hips swaying side to side, her hair flutters in the wind until she comes to a stop in front of me.

“Congratulations human girl. I didn’t know you had it in you.” She extends her hand to me and although we haven’t had a warm conversation before, I grip it firmly, eager to leave all that behind me.

“Thank you. I appreciate it.”

“Yes, you should. I’m impressed.” She walks away and I can’t help but feel some form of whiplash at the short exchange we had just had.

I make my way to Alyssa to get checked up.

Alyssa is stumped by my vitals.

“How do you feel, Lina?” She asks for the eleventh time by my count.

“Good. I can honestly say I have never felt better in my entire life. You have no idea how shocked I was to see myself outrun Paco and Brendan. But this is all because of my bite right?”

I raise my pants to take another look at it, it is healed over and there is almost no trace of the teeth marks that once stood out in stark contrast to the rest of my skin.

“That’s the thing Lina, you should be getting sicker. In all the cases I’ve seen, the bite wound doesn’t heal. Every single case.”

I am just as confused as she is.

“What is this Lina? Who bit you?” Alyssa is worried and her tone suggests something is wrong.

Her question confuses me and I answer her with a question myself. “ Uhh…The rogue?”

“No, I mean this.”

She puts her hand on my neck, where Williem had sunk his teeth into the nape of my neck while giving me a mind blowing orgasm.
