When you do pin a piece, kill it. A lot of times when a piece gets pinned in place, it becomes a magnet. All the free pieces on the board rush in, for and against, and whoever stacks up the most determines whether he stays or goes.

A good way to kill him is to bring a pawn to do it. It’s slow, but he probably ain’t going nowhere. In this picture,

there are a bunch of pins on both sides. (Take a second to find them all. And notice one of the most important ones is the white Rook pinning the black pawn in the middle.) If I were either player, I would be seriously thinking about pushing those center pawns forward, where they are going to put all kinds of pressure on the pinned Knights.
