Lily opened the door to the briefing room and shoved Joseph inside. He stumbled over the chair on the way in and then turned to face her and Xander. Xander's face was red, his posture was tense, and Lily could tell he was at a breaking point in all of this.

"I'm only going to say this once," Xander said in a low voice, his eyes hard as he leaned over the table. "I think you're involved in Kyle Lopez's murder. I want you to tell me the truth about where you were that night, and I want you to tell me now. The sooner you start talking, the sooner this can all be over. You understand that, buddy?"

Joseph glared at him for a moment, then he scowled. "I'm done answering questions for you."

Xander lifted a brow. "I've been interrogating people for a long time, Joseph. You think I'm bluffing? You won't break?"

Joseph's face grew serious. "No," he said. "No, I don't think you're bluffing. I think you'll do everything you can to make my life miserable. But I'm not going to talk to you."

"You have to talk to us, Joseph," Lily said, sitting down across from him. "You don't have a choice."

Xander rounded the table and sat down, looking over at Joseph. "So, Creos," he said, leaning forward, "you look like a smart guy. I'm guessing you've done your research on the FBI and whatnot. You know what we're capable of, right?"

"I know you're full of shit," Joseph said. “You’re not gonna do shit to me,” he said, looking at Lily. "You already proved that back in the alleyway."

"We don't have to cause you harm," Lily said. "But we can make it so that you spend a long, long time in prison. I suggest you tell us what we want to know."

"Yeah? What do you want to know?"

"If you know what happened to this man." Lily slapped a photo of Kyle Lopez down on the table. Joseph glanced down at it, then back up at Lily.

"I've seen him around my neighborhood before, but I don't know him. Is this the guy you keep saying I killed? What a joke—I've never killed anyone, man."

"Listen, we have your record," Lily said. "It says you have a history of assaulting people and stealing from them."

"Everything I've ever done, I've done it because I had to," Joseph said, putting his hands on the table. "You think I enjoy getting beat or thrown in jail or whatever? You think I like that shit?"

"Then stop getting in trouble," Xander said.

Joseph smirked. "What about you two? I'm sure you've both got dirt in your pasts."

"Don't change the topic," Xander said. "It's not gonna work on us."

"You don't have a nice clean record, either," Joseph pointed out. "I bet you two have broken many laws just to make yourselves seem like better cops."

"We're not cops, we're FBI agents," Lily said firmly, and Joseph's face fell. "We work for the US government, and we aren't messing around here."

"If you don't tell us where you were that night, we're going to put you in prison," Xander said.
