INFLUENCER

Back at the Bath Butler Cafe, I set up my laptop at the kitchen island across from Fitz and filled him in on my visit to the police station. As expected, he frowned deeply at me talking to Prescott (that old-fashioned possessiveness rearing its head again) and grew downright horrified when I told him I’d literally run into the vampire hunter. I assuaged his fears (and my own) as best I could by reassuring him that the man appeared to barely recognize me, and then only as Prescott’s date. Still, Fitz and I spent the rest of the morning working in tense silence, each of us brooding over the case and the potential danger from the vampire hunter.

I pulled up my notes app on my laptop and jotted down my thoughts about the case in an attempt to organize them. Maybe some pattern would magically jump out at me. I half expected Tilda to read my thoughts (though I didn’t think she could actually do that… yet) and have some sarcastic retort for me. I glanced down at the hardwood floor, looking for her, before remembering that she was either curled up in her basket by the crackling fire or being carried around by Leo like a baby.

To be a cat—now that was the life.

I sighed, and under suspects typed Freddie Fowler, the bratty influencer. He had a motive to get back at Aniya for embarrassing him publicly and ruining his career. Then again, it wasn’t like she posted the video. But who knew how much Freddie paid attention to minor details like logic.

I bit my lip and pulled up his various social media profiles, looking for anything that jumped out at me. He hadn’t posted anything since that whiny apology video the day before. Shockingly, I didn’t discover anything in his About Me that confessed to being a shifter or vampire—something that might explain the animal-like bites to Aniya’s throat.

I sighed, and Fitz looked up from rolling out cookie dough. I gave him a tight smile, which he returned, and we both got back to focusing on our work. Honestly, as I stared at Freddie’s blond, clueless face, lounging next to luxurious pools and showing off his latest swag, my gut told me he wasn’t our guy. If only I could rule him out for certain.

But I didn’t even know where to find the guy, and it wasn’t like I could just start interrogating him over Twitter. Unless… My gaze landed on contact information for his agent, someone named Chuck Little. I drummed my fingers on the butcher block countertop as I concocted a plan. A half-baked one, admittedly, but it just might work.

I pulled out my cell and dialed up Freddie’s agent. I expected to leave a voicemail, but to my shock, the agent picked up immediately.

“Chuck Little, how may I help you?”

I cleared my throat as Fitz shot me a questioning look. “Hi. Um… my name’s Minnie Wells, and I wanted to speak with you about a collaboration or sponsorship for Freddie Fowler.
