The evening air was fragrant with the scent of blooming flowers as we made our way back to Aunt Auggie's cottage. Darcy and I, having spent the daylight hours in amiable discourse, approached the threshold with an ease that spoke of a friendship newly forged. The door swung open before we could announce ourselves, and there stood Aunt Auggie, her face alight with the warmth of a thousand hearths.

"Come in, come in. I have been waiting for you for an hour at least," she beckoned. Aunt Augusta led us into the small kitchen, where the aroma of her famous spring vegetable stew filled the air with promises of comfort and nourishment. We seated ourselves at the humble table, the wooden surface worn smooth by countless meals and gatherings.

Aunt Auggie filled our bowls with generous portions, steam rising and curling like the whispers of spirits playful in their mischief.

"Eat, my dears," she said, her eyes crinkling with mirth. "This stew has warmed many a soul on evenings just like this. And do not forget the bread. It will warm and heal you."

We ate, laughter flowing as freely as the broth from our spoons. Aunt Auggie spun tales of the village, of familial grudges still held, and of love stories that sprouted, flower-like, in the most unexpected of soils. Her words were a balm, a magic all their own, drawing us into a tapestry woven with the thread of community.

"Love is quite the riddle, is it not?" Aunt Auggie mused between bites. "It asks much of us, yet gives back tenfold for every ounce of courage we spare."

"I would not know as of yet, Aunt Augusta," I replied, stealing a glance at Darcy, whose gaze lingered on me with an intensity that spoke volumes.

"Mr. Darcy," Aunt Auggie addressed him directly, "you have seen much of the world, I wager. Tell us, what wisdom have you gleaned from your travels?"

He paused, setting down his spoon. For a moment, I saw the mask of reserve he so often wore begin to slip.

"I have learned," he began, his voice tinged with something akin to wonder, "that the heart knows no bounds when it comes to affection. It is not confined by maps or mores but guided by a compass unseen. And wherever it guides us, it does us good to follow."

His admission hung in the air, a confession laid bare, and I felt a kinship with him then—two souls navigating the tumultuous waters of the search for companionship.

As the night drew to a close and Darcy took his leave, returning to the grandeur of Pemberley, I remained in the cozy confines of the cottage. The dishes needed to be cleared, but Aunt Auggie watched me as I worked, eyes glinting with the wisdom of the ages.

“Speak your piece, Lizzy. I know you wish to say something of importance.”

I sighed as I wrapped the remaining loaf of bread in a cloth and turned back to face her.

"Aunt," I ventured, my heart brimming with a confession, "I believe I feel more for Mr.
