Despite knowing that I was probably being too worried for no real reason, I could feel my nerves increasing as I approached the barge. It had felt good to spend the night with Tate, but what if he regretted it? I was sure we'd be able to move past something like that, we weren't exactly the first gods to sleep together and then have to work together afterwards, in fact from what I'd heard, it was pretty common. But that wouldn't necessarily stop things from becoming awkward between them.

I approached the barge, wishing I was comfortable enough to be in my half-snake form, but even with Tate's creation powers on hand to fix me if the situation arose, it would be much better if I simply didn't injure myself in the first place.

I cleared my throat as I arrived at the barge, my heart fluttering traitorously when Tate looked over the side of the barge and smiled at me.

"Morning." I gave him a weird wave.

"Didn't we already say that to each other?" he asked, hopping down.

"We did, but I didn't know whether you'd want to pretend it didn't happen."

"Not unless this is your way of saying that."

"Absolutely not." I hesitated a moment, feeling a lot less confident than I had in the bath. Which was ridiculous. I was thousands of years old, I was perfectly capable of maintaining my composure even if he wasn't interested in a repeat.

"Good." He looked as if he wanted to reach out and touch me, but decided against it at the last moment, which was a little frustrating, but I could understand why he was feeling like that. We hadn't exactly talked about what happened last night, it was more that we'd just given into how we were feeling.

"So..." I started, knowing we had to have this conversation like the immortal beings were as opposed to the inexperienced teenager I felt like. A tug in my gut stopped me from saying anything else and I groaned. "Are you kidding me?"

"What is it?" Concern crossed his face as he looked at me, trying to figure out what the problem was.

"Can't you feel the tug to the caverns?"

He frowned, only for his eyes to widen, which I assumed must be him realising what I was getting at. "Huh."

I sighed. "I guess this conversation can wait then." Why was I so disappointed by that? "And the barge. I'll see you once we're done?"

He nodded, looking as disappointed as I felt.

I turned away, but he reached out and caught my arm in his hand. I faced him again, my heart racing as I considered what he might want to say.

Tate stepped closer and brushed some hair out of my face. "I look forward to us talking."

I met his gaze and smiled. "Me too, I think."

He chuckled. "Perhaps I should give you a preview of what I have to say?"

I raised an eyebrow. "And how do you intend to do that?"

"Like this." He closed the gap between us and pressed his lips against mine.
