âCoffeeâs ready, sweetheart.â
Owen poured a cup from the pot, and set it down on the table beside his wife. âBlack, one sugar - just how you like it.â
âActually, I was thinking a mocha this morning.â
âHuh?â
âJust kidding, Owen. Always the gullible one.â
âHey, I spend half the day making things up, my grasp on reality really canât be the firmest.â
âWhat was it the guys used to call you back in high school? Mr. Spock?â
âSpock? Ha-ha, no not that, it was Spaceboy.â
âOh yeah, thatâs right,â Jean said, taking a sip of coffee.
She had aged remarkably well, her dark brown hair still fell over her shoulders in small waves, she still had a killer figure, and her skin was near as supple as when he had first met her. Owen himself, had been pretty lucky in the battle against time, he still possessed a youthful face, though his hairline had receded a little in the past years, still, mid thirties, that was expected. He had started wearing glasses about five years back, that didnât worry him in the slightest; Jean had been wearing glasses since he had met her, though thankfully she didnât still sport the model with the oversized lenses that she used to wear in her teenage years.
âWell, Iâll be seeing you tonight, darling. Donât forget to give the cat some of his cookies.â
âI wonât, you know if I ever forget he lets me know pretty quick, he comes a-mewing and a-scratching over to the computer.
Owen was suddenly seized by a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach; he wanted to say nausea, but it more portentous than that. Maybe he had drunk too much coffee, but he didnât think so, his body was pretty immune to the stuff.
âHey, Jeanâ¦â
âYeah, hon?â
âOh, it doesnât matter. Enjoy your day, Iâll see you tonight.â
âIndeed you will, Spaceboy.â She laughed, and kissed him on the cheek before heading out the door.
Owen heard her Mercedes start up, and meandered over to the computer, the strange feeling still in the pit of his stomach.
