The Kodak Theatre, opened in 2001 where the historic Hollywood Hotel once stood, is now the home of the Oscars. But many other televised events happen there, including the American Idol Finals and Daytime Emmys and the AFI Awards. Daily guided tours of the theater will take you well beyond the red carpet to a close-up view of the famous statue itself, the location of where your favorite celebrities sit, a visit to the exclusive George Eastman VIP Room and an insider’s view of the “Winners Walk.” For information on the Kodak Theatre Tour, call (323) 308-6300 or visit www.kodaktheatre.com.

For a free listing of movies, television shows, and music videos being shot around Los Angeles, make a stop at the City of Los Angeles Film and Video Permit Office, across from Mann’s Chinese Theater. Located at 7083 Hollywood Blvd., in Hollywood, this permit office prints “shoot sheets” for each day, and they suggest that you come by before lunchtime, after which the sheets are often gone. Be warned: You cannot get the sheets by phone, mail, or fax—just in person. The office is open Mon through Fri from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
