“Contrary to what you may think,” North said. “I’m not going back home with you.”

“I don’t think you have a choice in that matter.” Ross was leaned against a pillar, arms folded across his chest. “Mother has requested an audience with you at once.”

“What for? We both know we can’t become King of Artica. It is only for those who are female.”

“With mother’s deepest regret, an heir has to be announced in case she was to perish from old age or anything else that could cause her harm. She has decided that she would name you her sole heir to the throne. Artica’s first king.”

“And if I refuse?”

“I don’t think you have a choice.”

“The bloody hell I don’t,” North cursed. “We always have a choice.”

Ross sighed, regret staining his features. He peeled himself off the pillar and said, “North I—”

The doors swung open and Bryn strolled in followed by Brother Oliver. North’s breath caught in his throat. Bryn was just as stunning than when he had last laid eyes on her back in Boreal. Her long, glossy raven hair was draped across her back, the strands almost touching her backside. Her eyes were rimmed with dark ink, a small, but pronounce wing edging from the corners of beautiful, amber eyes. Although those eyes looked haunted, they were still some of the most mesmerizing pairs of eyes he had ever laid eyes on. He watched as Bryn grabbed black gloves from her satchel and put them on. She turned to North.

“So, what is our destination?” She asked.

“I’m sorry, but did you say ‘our’ destination?” Ross smirked. “I hate to break it to you sweetheart, but our adventure is done. I’ve collected my bounty and I will be on my merry way.”

“I don’t think so.” Bryn’s eyes narrowed, her eyes like molten magma. “I know you’re going to Artica because North is a prince. I want to tag along.”

“Absolutely not.” Ross said.

Bryn raised a brow, one hand resting on her hip. “You don’t have a choice. Either we ride as a group, or you’ll be having someone following remarkably close behind you.”

“You don’t scare me,” Ross’ voice was all steel. “Our bargain is through.”

“If I recall, a certain Bounty Hunter once told me that he preferred my company rather than the coin I could bring him in.” This time, it was Bryn who smirked.

“Let her come along,” North sighed. “I don’t want to go and see mother that much is certain, but maybe we can gain our mother as an ally.”

“An ally? Whatever for?” Ross asked.

“A war is brewing gentlemen,” Bryn glanced around the room. “And to be honest, I’d rather be on the winning side of things. And to do that, we need as many allies as we can find. Since your mother is Queen Brionna I assume, maybe we can sway her to our side.”

“Corvus is, here isn’t he?” North asked.

Bryn frowned, refusing to even acknowledge his existence.
