Chapter eleven

Back at the house, Dixie thought about the brief conversations with Joel and Ada. He didn't react well. Admittedly, she came on strong. Investigating was new to her. Not being from Loblolly Falls originally made it somewhat easier to ask the hard questions because, as the saying goes, she didn't have a dog in the fight. Not like Miriam, or even Toni for that matter. Looking into people you consider your friends or former classmates had to be tough. It was killing Miriam, that was certain.

Joel's response was to walk away in a huff. Surely they weren't the only ones in town who thought he might have been responsible for Gary's death. Could it be that other people have been saying something to him about it? That might ruffle his feathers, especially if he's innocent.

Dixie needed to learn more about Joel.

There are three things you have to prove to solve a murder: motive, means, and opportunity. Gary fired him and sabotaged every effort to secure a new job. That's a pretty good motive.

He made the coffee that day, giving him the opportunity.

The big question left is did he have the means? The poison itself. They need to put it in his hands. But how?

All the suspects on the list have money as a motivating factor. Livelihood, business, and life insurance.
