He found Ellie pacing. Thankfully she’d given up on drinking. Her hair flew behind her and her shirt was messily untucked. Ethan scrolled on one of the open screens.

“What’s wrong? Was someone here?”

George looked out through the curtains. He was fairly sure no one followed him, but it was impossible to be certain.

“They’ve screwed me!” Ellie said, pointing toward the screen.

George watched as Ethan scrolled through her social media profile to see a flurry of posts. He muttered under his breath as he saw each minority group in the city targeted for violence and blamed for every possible crisis.

“There’s been five in the last ten minutes,” Ellie shouted.

“Ellie, you have to be quiet,” George said but there was no calming her.

“They're out to ruin me, they’re out to ruin everything! All for nothing! I haven’t done anything and now there’s a huge target on my back. They want to kill me!”

At this, she collapsed into a chair and sobbed.

“What are you going to do about it?” she said to George. “I thought you were off to fix this!”

“I’m working on it,” he said as he plugged the portable drive into one of his laptops.

Then he sent a text, “I’m back, K-Lo. Incomplete download ready for your magic.”

Turning back to Ellie, he said, “I copied the hard drive from your computer.”

“My computer? I don’t use that piece of junk. It never worked for me.”

“It was working for them.”

St. George explained how a program on the hard drive was infesting her system and taking over the computer remotely. From there, they could invade anything on her network.

“They hacked me? They can do that?” Ellie exclaimed.

“They can do anything,” George said. “If you’re not on alert, they can take anything from you. Sometimes, even when you are,” he added with a quiet tone.

Ellie stood, clearly angered by the news her entire life could be manipulated. “I want answers. How’d they even get this file, program, thing on my computer?”

“A guy in tactical gear climbed in your second-floor window. Not the first time he was there, I’m guessing.”

This news took Ellie out at the knees. “My home,” she whispered flopping back into the chair. “My sanctuary.”

“Not anymore.”

George took a deep breath. Seeing the devastation on Ellie’s face reminded him of the real human cost of the games being played by unknown perpetrators. He’d been the victim years ago and now someone else was doing the same thing to her. Thankfully, nobody was hurt this time.

“Ethan, give me a hand with this,” he waved the kid over, “I’ve got something up my sleeve.” Ethan’s face lit up as George logged on to CoPost with Ellie’s username and password.

“You’re going to help me track who’s doing this. We track them, we find them, we stop them.”

“That’s wicked,” Ethan said with a grin. Then he looked up, saw Ellie, and looked back down with a more resolute face. “Let’s get ‘em.”

In a few keystrokes George had a new post written. “I’m being framed. No one will listen but I know the truth.
