CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
As a patrol car went racing by, sirens and blue lights breaking into his sleep, Tom awoke with a jolt. He decided to drive on before he attracted attention. Rounding a corner he saw a familiar figure swaying away from the bars and toward a rundown neighborhood. He pulled up beside the woman and asked, âNow can I take you home?â
The blond woman looked into the car and gasped, recognizing the man from earlier in the evening who had threatened her friends with his gun. Tom continued with all his charm. âHey, Iâm not mad. How about we work at you getting my money in a way weâll both enjoy.â She appeared to be skeptical as he continued. âCome on, you live close by? This money you wonât have to share with those punks.â He gave her an appraising look. âI think I can make up for our bad start.â
The woman studied him and considered his offer. She stepped from the curb into the car. Her body worked itself into the seat as she allowed her short skirt to ride high on her lap. Her legs were long and bare and she was wearing shoes with high heels and thin straps at her ankles. Her body displayed all the promise of their first meeting.
This time Tom responded with a more forthright approach. He looked appreciatively at her body and possessively stroked her neck. He ran his hand down her breast, rubbing her nipple then moved his hand onto her thighs. She looked at him and said, âYou want it in this car, or at my place?â
Tom continued to rub and explore as he said, âWe could do both, but I think your place would be more fun.â
She directed him along the street to a small apartment building. âThereâs parking in the back,â she whispered. Tom followed her directions and parked in a dark spot. She grabbed at his clothing as she said, âAnd there ainât no baby-sitter.â
âPerfect,â he said as he explored more under her clothing. The woman reached for Tomâs trousers as the car stopped. âLetâs get out of here,â rasped Tom as he opened the door and stumbled out of the car.
The woman was already out of the car when he reached the door and hastily led him into the building and into a basement efficiency. The door closed and Tom, an aggressive sex partner, moved rapidly, tearing at her clothing. He took command of the sexual exchange and directed her participation taking them both to a sweaty, panting, breathless conclusion. They lay there in the quiet room for sometime.
Finally the woman spoke, âHoney, I have a bed. We didnât have to do this on the floor.â
In The Heights all the tension from the evening seemed to be ebbing. Piperâs sons were calming down. Jim, though tired, looked revitalized by the activity. âPiper, I think you and the boys should stay here tonight,â he said as he leaned on Jason. âItâll be like camping out. I donât want you home until this fellow is under control.
