MOLLY

“I can’t believe he’s been watching me,” I huffed out as we walked down the street.

“I know I said café, but in case they heard us I think we should switch it up.”

“Okay, where?”

“There’s a little dive bar that opens at ten. They won’t find us there. It’s just around the corner.”

“That sounds great. Thanks, Shaw.”

She reached over and tucked her arm around mine. “What are friends for?”

We didn’t talk until we got inside the place she mentioned. It was dark, with barely any lighting, dark booths, beat up wooden floors—dark everything.

“How did you find this place?”

“Believe it or not, the owner’s wife takes yoga. I met her here once recently for a drink on the house. Scout has no clue I was ever here, he’d kill me, so I don’t think they’d even look.”

A bartender came over, smiled, and placed two glasses of wine down without asking us what we wanted. Neither of us took a sip, but thanked him regardless. Shaw shrugged. “Hey, Fred.”

“Shaw. My wife there this morning?”

“You bet she was.”

He harrumphed and walked away. I was staring at the two wines placed on the bar.

I pushed the glass to the side. “Why did he think we wanted wine?”

“It’s what I had last time I was here. So, what is it you need from me?” She picked up her glass and sipped.

“Well, I don’t know how to say this, but… do you have a gun?”

She blanched and swallowed, nearly choking. “I don’t, but Scout does. I’m sure Slider does, too. They all do, I think.”

“Do you know how to use it, Shaw?”

She nodded. “Yes, Johnny taught me last year, but I haven’t touched one since. What do you need a gun for?”

“I’m going to kill Declan O’Shea. I want my face to be the last thing he sees before lights out.” I wagged my finger in the air like I was Beyoncé in her ‘All the Single Ladies’ video.

She sat back, her beautiful face pale. “I think you should let Slider handle it. They have a way of doing things and not getting caught, Molly. If you get caught you’ll go away forever. Is that what you want?”

“Of course not. I want Noah and a family, but Declan took all that away from me, and from Noah ten years ago. And I being the fool, I let him get away with it. Well, I’m done doing that. He needs to pay for his sins. Besides, aren’t all roads paved the same for sinners and saints?”

She grabbed my hands and held them. “I guess, Molly, and I understand what it’s like for a man to hurt you. But I don’t think you’ve thought this through.”

“Oh, I have for ten long years. It’s time.”

Shaw slammed back her wine and cleared her throat. “Okay, I’ll get you one of Scout’s handguns. But Molly, you have to promise not to tell him where you got it from.”

“Of course. My lips are sealed.”

She sighed heavily and then laughed, tossing her hands up in the air.
