Chapter eleven

Hannah had thought the first week, five days really, of the new season of Life of Kate had been difficult. She’d nearly died, sleeping in a pine bough hut, in a freaking storm, after all. Also, that moose probably would have kicked her behind if they’d gotten into it, even if she’d been armed at the time. She’d looked it up and it turned out that facing off with that kind of animal could go either way, really. They, moose, generally won fights, if they decided to attack, too. Even if you were armed. They’d been lucky.

Still, almost instantly, Hannah understood that this week was going to be many times more difficult, suddenly. Annoying as well. Because Lara and Terry had come to join them. Dressed in couture fashions, which did look good, she had to admit, and seeming instantly wronged by the fact that they were supposed to sleep in mere trailers, not finer accommodations.

Lara, on camera, actually sneered at Connie. It wasn’t her best look.

“This is simply unacceptable! I understand the idea of roughing it, but we should at least be in a four-star hotel. Kate, come tell this woman not to be a monster!”

Max actually walked away. Not because he was angry, either. He was hiding the fact that he was starting to laugh at the women. Terry was simply stewing, and rolling her eyes so hard that it had to be giving her a headache. Then, she was also sky high on something. Enough that not speaking was probably the better course of action.

Hannah wasn’t going to judge her on that one. After all, she’d spent a lot of the last years in a similar state. Connie didn’t speak, letting Lara get louder and more animated, since drama sold on reality television. Katie made a face that spoke of being ashamed of something, or sorry for her actions, but also didn’t start reading Connie the riot act.

Hannah, finally, waved a bit.

“Hotel? Trailer? We don’t need no stinking trailer! We’re going to make our own places, out of sticks and tarps. It’s the theme this season. Survival training. First, we need to get these two better clothing for it. I have some things that might fit you, Terry. Second hand clothing, so it won’t matter when they get covered in mud or ripped. Lara, you’re closer to Kate, in size, so she might have something?”

Hannah knew the girls better than anyone else there did, except possibly Kate. Even that was a bit off, since Kate, while one of their circle, had a double life. These two had actually been in Hannah’s bed, at least occasionally, over the years. Lara was into men, but had still gotten Hannah to do some cuddly things with her, on the rare occasion that she hadn’t been able to hook up with one of that type of person.

So, both of them were honestly closer to her than her tall friend.

Which meant they didn’t start out by screaming, or even complaining, exactly. Not at Hannah.
