“How did you know we’d be here?” Callie asked.

“What kind of greeting is that?” Ian’s hazel eyes sparkled with humor. He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. “Whew. Someone’s been having fun. Or are you using a new ouzo-scented perfume?”

Callie blinked. Busted. “The staff around here is extremely generous with free food and drink. It’s not polite to say no. But seriously, how did you find us?”

“How did I know? You don’t give me enough credit. I follow criminals for a living, don’t I?”

“Criminals? I’m not a ---” She looked at Ian and burst into laughter. “You’re joking, aren’t you? Grandma, Sweetie, please tell me he’s joking.” She giggled again.

“Oh, dear. I think you’re tipsy,” Viv said.

“Tipsy? Nooooo…”

Ian tried to look stern, but his face relaxed into a smile. “OK, I think it’s time to go, don’t you? I left Olivia with the honeymooners to come and get you and that’s not quite fair, is it?”

Callie looked around the restaurant. “I had just one more thing to ask Alexandros, and what about Thalia? I’ve got to find out who her boyfriend is. I know she’s lying.”

Ian looked at Sweetie and Viv. “What is she talking about?” Ian asked them.

“We’ll fill you in in the car,” Viv said, gathering up her purse.

“Wait till she tells you what she’s doing tomorrow,” Sweetie interjected, with a wicked smile.

“Looks like I got here just in time,” Ian said.

Callie stood up, albeit a little unsteadily. “Excuse me. I’ll be right back.” She darted toward the back of the restaurant, her eye on Alexandros. She had just seen him go into the kitchen.

Callie hurried as fast as her shaky legs could carry her. Alexandros came barreling out of the kitchen and she blocked his path in the narrow hallway that led to customer restrooms and the kitchen.

“Looking for the restrooms? They’re right behind you,” he said, attempting to step around her.

“No, I was looking for you. I need your help.”

“What’s this all about? We’re very busy here tonight.”

“I know. I’ll make it quick. I am staying in the same hotel with a pair of American tourists, Sterling and Yvonne Whitley. I know that you were involved in a business deal with them, along with Valantis. Sterling seems to be untrustworthy. Something went wrong – what was it?”

Alexandros’s thick brows drew together over his nose. “Let me pass. This is none of your business.”

“Please.” Callie held up her hands. “Dimitrios is my father’s childhood friend. He’s been charged with Valantis’ murder. If you know anything, please go to the police. It’s important.”

“Valantis knew how to get other people to do his bidding. He could talk his way out of – or into – anything. I knew that. But we were friends. And I never thought he’d end up dead. Sterling.” He nearly spat the word. “We were only interested in him as an investor. That’s all I can tell you. I’ve got customers.” With that, he scooted around Callie, nearly knocking her over in his eagerness to be away from her.
