Just after two in the morning, Damon's cell phone rang. He groaned and sat up at the second ring. On the third, he stumbled from bed and across the room to the bureau, where he'd left it charging. His mind was fuzzy, thinking slowly, but he glanced over at his roommate, Harry, who was still sound asleep, and growled. Damon only wished he had been sleeping soundly enough not to hear the phone ring.

He picked up, interrupting the fourth ring.

"Who is this?" he asked angrily.

Someone snickered on the other end of the line. "Saw your picture in The Daily," a voice said, muffled and low. Disguised. "You and your white girl. All over her with your filthy hands."

"Who the hell is this?" Damon demanded, furious.

He remembered what Jenna had told him about Frank Abernathy. One of those neo-Nazis, he figured. Typical of the kind of thing that had been going on around campus. After the paper that morning, it wasn't really a surprise. That realization did nothing to stem his rage.

"Come on, you coward. You gotta call me on the phone, disguise your voice. Why don't you show your face? Come on up here and say what you've got to say," Damon dared the caller.

That snicker again. "Oh, I'll show my face all right, Harris. You're a celebrity now. Front page news. And it won't be the last time. You'll make the news again real soon. I've got my eye on you."

Damon paused, dumbstruck. He had thought this was nothing but a crank call, some bigoted jerk having a bit of cruel fun with his buddies. Suddenly he was fully awake as he considered the possibility that this guy was the real thing. The killer.

"See you soon, Harris," the voice said. "Oh, and one last thing. Tell your friend, Anthony, that Brittany had tears on her face when she died. Tell him that."
