“Dakota!” Audrey gasped. “What are you doing here?”

I grinned. “And here I was expecting a warm welcome.”

Audrey jumped into my arms, cutting my smart-ass comment short. I laughed and kissed her neck. It felt amazing to have her back in my arms. There was nothing better in the world. I’d called Kylan first to see where he was at. Not that I minded sharing my time with her, but I knew the pair were keeping a tight schedule to stay away from the first lady. Kylan had opted to go along with Declan and Derek. He was still with Declan working out the details of our departure for the Mayfair.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” she said breathlessly. “I’m just surprised to see you, is all. It’s a happy surprise, though, a very happy one.”

“Well, good, I enjoy it when you’re happy. Have you heard the news?” I asked.

Audrey nodded. “We’re leaving for Colorado tomorrow. It will be a lot of fun.”

I groaned. “We should look up the definition of fun. I don’t think you know what it means. We’re once again being sent into exile, my love.”

She giggled and kissed me again. “Yeah, but this time we know what we are coming back to. This is everything that we’ve wanted. All we have to do is put on a good show.”

“I don’t know, I feel like we haven’t practiced enough,” I growled.

Audrey sighed with contentment in my arms as my fingers traced their way down her back. Moving past her rear, I slid my hand beneath her dress and over her bare cheeks. She didn’t stop me when I moved to the front, letting my hand slide below the thin lace of her thong until I felt the moist crease of her folds. She was already hot and ready. I’d be a lying fool to pretend like I didn’t want her. We were still standing in the front foyer. I broke away from her lips.

“How much time do we have?” I asked.

“Enough,” she growled.

I wasn’t going to wait for her to change her mind. Lifting her off her feet, I carried her into the living room. She wrapped her legs around me as I set her on the back of the sofa. It was the same place where it all started, yet this time felt so different. We’d grown together, our relationship evolving into something wonderful and unexpected. That night, almost a year ago, had changed my life forever, and I wouldn’t change a single second of it.
