Friday morning arrived, and so did the torrential rain. Sara hated the rain, it soured everyoneâs mood. Today, she decided to look on the bright side; at least she wasnât driving into work battling a snow blizzard like the people in America. Sheâd heard the reports on the news and knew theyâd be expecting the same weather front in the next ten days or so, if history was about to repeat itself.
The team were already at their desks and Carla appeared to be a lot brighter than the previous day. âMorning all, anything useful come in overnight?â
âNo, nothing as yet,â Carla replied. She left her seat and walked over to the vending machine to buy Sara a coffee.
âThanks, Carla, nice to see I have you well-trained. Youâre looking so much better today, or is that the result of another bout of heavy make-up?â
âNo, itâs the Arnica gel Iâve been slathering on when I get home. Miracle stuff.â
âIâll add it to my shopping list.â Sara smiled and took a sip of her drink. âWhere did we get up to with the limo yesterday?â
Will waved a sheet of paper. âIâm going through the list right now. There are fifty potentials to sift through.â
âItâs too much to ask that one of them belongs to Henry Barrows, am I right?â
Will shook his head as he cast his eyes over the list again. âYep. Nothing on here.â
âJust as I thought. In that case, Craig, weâre relying on you to come up with the goods as usual.â
âNo pressure there, then. I didnât receive the footage until late afternoon. Iâll get on it now and give you a shout as soon as I find anything.â
âIâll leave you to it and continue with my daily grind. Once Iâve dealt with the post, weâll have a conflab about what we should do next. To say I was disappointed with the response from the public would be a gross understatement.â She left her colleagues to it and drifted into her office, pausing for a few seconds to admire the view of the Brecon Beacons and their inviting peaks. She took a couple of sips of coffee and then sat behind her desk, sighing at the pile of brown envelopes vying for her attention.
Carla came into the room to rescue her from the mundane chore a little while later. âIâve just received a call that youâll want to hear about.â
Sara frowned. âGo on.â
âIâve had a Diane Watson on the phone.â
âWhoâs she? Stop stringing it out longer than necessary, Carla.â
âItâs in connection with the appeal, well, sort of.â
Sara opened her upturned hands. âAnd?â
âAnd⦠she got our number from her friendâs room.â
âCarla, can we hurry this up please?â
Carla swallowed. âHer friend, or should I say, flatmate, is Davina Harding.â
âNow, youâve grabbed my attention. What about her?â
âSheâs gone missing. Didnât come home last night.â
Sara shot out of her chair and paced in front of her desk. âI knew it was wrong of her to go before the damn cameras. Bloody idiot. Sorry, I shouldnât
