To say Serena hadnât taken Lyleâs âordersâ well would be the understatement of the year. Itâs been three days, and sheâs still hardly speaking to him. Last night had been the first time she broke her silence, and it had been for her to call him an asshole when he told her that Blair would be going with her to work.
Itâs better than nothing, I guess.
Even with how those two argue, three days is a long time.
Today we have class, and Iâm not sure if Iâm grateful that itâs one we all have together or worried because of it. No doubt Rena wouldâve been pissed about being assigned another babysitter, as she called us, and whoever it was, Iâm sure, would be on her shit list too. But with us all already there, she might just try to kill us in front of everyone.
I hate when Renaâs upset, but I hate it even more when sheâs mad at us, and no matter what she says, she is, in fact, mad at all of us.
How could she not be?
Once again, we all sided with Lyle. Someone needed to be with her. Between her collapsing in class and whatever had happened the other night, something wasnât right, and weâre all worried about her. She felt like she was weak because of it, but it wasnât that at all.
We just donât want her to get hurt.
I hope we can find some kind of common ground before the hunt next week. It wonât be the same like this, and I know Rena always looks forward to it.
âHey, Rena,â I call out to her through the crack in the door as I knock.
She doesnât answer, but I know sheâs in there. Itâs been where sheâs spent most of her time the last few days. Always claiming she has homework to do or that sheâs tired and wants to nap, but I know better.
We all do.
Sheâs never shut herself away from us like this. We usually study together, and itâs not like we all havenât passed out when weâre too tired to think anymore.
Right now, she doesnât want to be around us, and as much as that stings, weâre all trying to respect it. Some of us are doing better than others, but whatever.
It just sucks that we canât be with her. Weâre all so used to being together that I canât imagine this is any easier on her. Hell, it might be harder since sheâs the one dealing with all this crazy stuff already.
When I knock again and she still doesnât answer I push the door open. Just a few inches so that I can peek inside.
Sheâs curled up on the bed. A textbook laying open next to her, but sheâs fast asleep with her headphones in.
No wonder she didnât answer me. I swear, if she werenât a shifter, she would be deaf from how loud she listens to her music.
I push the door open further before stepping inside, and walking over to her bed. Sheâs curled up on her side, almost in the fetal position.
