MARY

I LET Jay lead me to the black truck across the street. I knew something wasn't right by the look on Jay's face, so I didn't argue when he told me to come with him. I was still angry with him, but I knew I needed to listen.

"So what's happening, Jay?" I asked once we were on the road.

"Something happened last night at the strip club. This morning the cleaning staff found the body of one of our girls in the dumpster. "

"That's terrible. Does anyone know what happened? And what does the murder have to do with me?"

"I don't want to scare you, but the man that we have on-camera looks a lot like Doug. He was following you yesterday, and he came into the club after you came in."

I suddenly felt cold all over. I knew Doug was obsessive, capable of kidnapping, but I had no idea he was capable of murder. "How do you know it was Doug that killed her?"

"We have him on camera putting the body in the dumpster. Viking is talking to the police. He will make them aware of the connection."

"I can't believe he has been following me, and I didn't know. How could I have not known? I thought I was being careful."

"He was staying back; the prospects and brothers we had following you kept him from doing anything. Doug was most likely waiting on a chance to find you alone. So, you will stay at the clubhouse until they find him. We have security, and with twenty of the bikers staying there full time, you will never be alone. So, don't be difficult about it. You'll be safe."

I wasn't about to be difficult about it. I wasn't stupid, and there was no way I could protect myself as the club could. "I am not going to argue, Jay; I know it's best." That doesn't mean I still wasn't mad, just not stupid.

I could tell he was happy I wasn't going to fight him over it. Then, pulling up to the clubhouse gate, Jay put in a code to open the gate. I was nervous about staying here, and I didn't know what to expect. I know things have changed but the memory of what I saw years ago still plays in my head.

Parking Jay took my hand, bringing it to his lips. "I know we need to talk about what happened yesterday. Once I get you settled, I have to take care of a few things then we will sit down and talk about things. That good?"

"Yea, that's good, Jay. I know we need to talk. Especially if I'm going to be staying here." Dropping my hand, we got out of the truck and went inside. It was like a great big house, with a vast bar attached. We walked up the stairs and straight to his room.

"So, I am staying in your room?"

"Where else would you stay? Yes, you are staying in my room, with me. Don't think of doing anything different.
