Azran led them to the doorway that marked the boundary to the Hall of the Gods. He stopped abruptly before they crossed and nudged Sabine’s hand. Sabine immediately placed her hand on his large head, ruffling his fur absently.

Four tunnel entrances gaped like open mouths, each appearing the same as the others. She could make out the gleam of small crystals jutting out of the walls beside each entrance, but there weren’t any identifying marks. She had no idea which way to travel to find Bane or the demon city.

“In this, I may aid you,” Azran said, looking up at her.

“How?”

“To reach the demon city, you must travel down the left corridor until you reach the first crossroads. Upon your arrival, press your hand against the crystal and keep your destination in your thoughts. Walk only upon the paths illuminated by the red crystals, and you will be led in the correct direction. Someone will intercept you long before you reach the boundary of Harfanel.”

Sabine tilted her head in acknowledgment of his words. “Be well, Azran.”

“Same to you, little goddess. Know that you carry the wisdom of the Hall with you, always.”

Malek touched her arm and said, “We should go.”

She nodded and allowed Malek to lead her down the corridor. Rika walked beside her, with her weapon at the ready, while Blossom sat on Rika’s shoulder. Sabine heard the door sealing shut behind them but didn’t look back.

“How are we going to find Bane?” Rika asked.

“I’m hoping he’ll locate us.”

Malek frowned. “Bane’s able to track you with his abilities, isn’t he?”

“Normally, yes,” Sabine said, trying to sense him through their blood bond. “I can’t quite get a read on him. I think the curse may be interfering, or we’re still too close to the wards protecting the Hall.”

As they moved toward the tunnel, Sabine’s skin began to burn. She inhaled sharply, gripping her wrist where Lachlina’s markings decorated her skin.

Malek stopped abruptly. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

Blossom’s wings fluttered, their tips turning red in agitation. “It’s the goddess! She’s really angry, Sabine. She couldn’t reach you when we were inside the Hall.”

Sabine gasped, the pain shooting up her arm like a branding iron. She stumbled, trying to stay upright and breathe through the pain. Gritting her teeth, she tried to find a calm oasis in her mind, but it was as though a tidal wave was pummeling against her natural defenses.

“She’s so angry!” Blossom shrieked, clamping her hands over her ears. “I can’t do it! I can’t!”

Malek wrapped his arm around Sabine’s waist, keeping her upright. He whipped his head toward Blossom and snapped, “I don’t give a damn if she’s angry! If she doesn’t stop trying to control Sabine, I’ll spend the rest of my days working to destroy her. On that, she has my most solemn oath.”

“Don’t threaten her!” Blossom shrieked, her wings fluttering wildly. “It’ll make it worse!”

Sabine cried out, doubling over from the pain lancing through her. The marks on her wrist burned, while icy pinpricks
