TALMAGE

Talmage stumbled through the passages. The spell had depleted his energy. The curse of magick. After each spell, it would drain the user, but Talmage had put everything he had into his last spell. Now he paid the consequences of his life-saving actions.

Why could I use it then and not before? He wondered, staring at his black-singed palms. He glanced around, wondering if his mentor had been watching him and allowed him to use his magick. His dry, cracked lips burned in the cold air as he staggered absently down the passage.

“Hello!” His frail voice faded in the distance, hoping someone had entered the warded labyrinth. I’ve got to... keep... going.

Talmage made his way through the passages, attempting to retrace his steps from following his ex-lover. As he paced through the system of black openings and narrow walls, he struggled to remember his last thoughts before waking up in the caves. He thought of his brother and wondered if he was in the same predicament as him. Probably not, his life had been blessed with greatness––climbing the ranks of the Empress’ Military while I climbed over foes in the shadows. He saw his brother less often after Agustin had died. Zylah had always been kind to him and wrote him letters in secrecy. Her last letter had hurt him the most, but maybe it was something he needed to receive.
