CHAPTER 12

As they got out of the car, the compound appeared vacant. All the operators must still be involved in their mission. They walked into their building and went straight to the Ops center. Both Eve and Jack were there working. Their heads shot up when they heard them enter.

Elle didn’t miss the relief in Eve’s eyes. “I’m so glad you made it back okay. There’s a lot of activity around that neighborhood now. So far, no one is saying why, but there’s a lot of speculation about a break in targeting a wealthy businessman.”

Elle turned to Jack. “Anything on our hijacked websites?”

He shook his head. “Everyone is still talking about the video from last night. They don’t seem to have any idea that anything else is going on.”

“How are those discussions going?”

“Good, as far as I can tell. I’ve been doing what I can to sow the seeds of distrust, and I think it’s working. It’s not really my forte, but I think it’s made enough people question what they know. The discussions are gaining steam.”

Jack’s smug look told her more than his words. He was proud of his work and was even enjoying messing with the terrorist sympathizers.

“Excellent, we’re about to give it one hell of a push.” She took off her bag, pulled out all the cameras, and put them on his desk. “Do you have everything ready for these?”

“Yeah, I’ve got my equipment set up to catalog all of the footage, a program that will index any images with movement, and then another that will mark audio that’s usable in my editing software. How many cameras did you use?”

“Five.”

“Okay, five cameras running for about twenty-four hours…I’ll need about two hours to run them through the program. Then I can give you a better idea of how long it will take to view them.”

“Let’s get it done. Time is critical here. They haven’t announced that Number 1 is dead yet, so they must be in cover-their-ass mode right now. Someone will have to say something soon, though. We want our next video to emerge first. If not, then we’ll have to present it differently. What support do you need?”

“I’ve got this part, really just takes one person. But after that, if we could each take a video, it will go a lot faster. The indexing will help us shoot through to the spots of most interest.” Jack replied.

Elle nodded. “Get yourselves ready to dig in for as long as it takes. I’m going to get cleaned up and grab food and coffee,” she said to Eve and Tex.

Tex nodded.

Eve nodded and said, “I’ve got a pot of coffee going already, and some Mountain Dew for you, Jack.”

Jack smiled and gave a her a hearty thanks, blushing a little. Sometimes, he really was a walking stereotype for a computer nerd.

Elle went straight to their shop and pulled out her pistol and suppressor. She was cleaning her pistol when she felt eyes on her and looked up to see Tex.
