Chris had been busy. âOkay, first of all, Iâve checked out the relatives, and the victims.â
âAnd?â
âBits and pieces but I doubt any of it helps us.â
âTell me anyway,â Clare said, hanging up her jacket.
âRight, so, Andy Robb, nothing. Angela Robb â cautioned for a breach of the peace, five years ago. No action taken.â
âThat it?â
âYeah, sheâs clean otherwise. Grew up on the Broughty Ferry Road in Dundee. You know, just the other side of the River Tay?â
âI know where Dundee is, thank you!â
âJust checking. Went to local schools, nothing else of note. Both parents dead now. One sister in Canada.â
âChecked?â
âYeah, sheâs still there.â
âOkay,â Clare said. âAnd Billy Dodds?
âAh well now â heâs been a naughty boy. One conviction for receiving stolen goods, admittedly seven years ago, and an assault ten years ago.â
âDid he do time?â
Chris shook his head. âSuspended sentence for the assault, probably because the other lad had previous. Fine for the other one.â
Clare nodded. âAnything else of note?â
âNah. Heâs clean, otherwise.â
âOkay. Next?â
âNat Dryden has no pre-cons and he doesnât have a girlfriend. According to his sister Cindy, heâs not had one recently, as far as she knows.â
Clare thought back to the clutter and mess in Natâs house. âYes, I can believe that. How about Cindy?â
âNothing at all. She and Nat are both local to St Andrews and sheâs never been in bother.â
âWhich leaves the Gilmartins. Iâm guessing nothing there.â
âNope. Both squeaky clean. In fact, sheâs about as clean as it gets. Her father was a high court judge.â
âReally? Who was he?â
âAlexander Russell. Now Lord Russell of Findale.â
âCrikey. No wonder the DCIâs keeping in with her.â
âYep. Our Jennifer went to private school in Perthshire then spent two years at Edinburgh University. Not sure what she studied but she left after that. Worked in Daddyâs office for a few years, helping out, while playing tennis and hanging about with the county set. Married Bruce Gilmartin when she was twenty-four and hasnât worked since. Iâm guessing sheâs a lady who lunches.â He shook his head. âNice work if you can get it.â
Clare sat mulling this over. âOn balance,â she said, âI think Iâd rather not be married to someone like Bruce Gilmartin, even if it does mean working all the hours God sends for very little thanks.â
âSuppose.â
Clare stretched out her legs, making circles with her ankles. She yawned. âGod Iâm tired, Chris. So â anything else?â
Chris shuffled through the printouts until he found the one he needed. âLand Rovers. Iâve a list of all vehicles first registered ten and eleven years ago. There are only two within fifty miles of here. Our stolen one â you know, Fergus Bainâs â and one out at Cairnharrow Farm.â
Clare searched her memory. The name wasnât familiar. âWhereâs that?â
âOver towards Cupar. I can go now and check it if you like?â
âSee if thereâs anyone at Cupar who could look at it for us. Check for damage. Save us some time.â Clare checked her watch. âLetâs get some lunch. The rest of the team should be heading back soon.
