Chapter Seventeen

Alex’s eyes fluttered open. Somewhere close by a phone was ringing and ringing and ringing. It wasn’t her ringtone. Thankfully, the call went to voice mail and the ringing finally stopped. She looked around the bright, sunlit room and smiled. Thank goodness, it hadn’t been a dream after all. Elina shifted a bit in bed and snuggled in closer. Their naked bodies fit perfectly together. She wasn’t ready to move. She didn’t want this moment to end.

The stupid phone started ringing again. Whoever was calling was persistent. Elina stirred and lifted her head off that sweet spot on her shoulder. The sun streaming in the window added a deep golden glow to Elina’s eyes. The way they lit up when she recognized who was in bed with her and then that sleepy smile which made those beautiful eyes sparkle was something Alex could get used to seeing every single morning. Talk about a great way to start a day.

“Good morning, or is it afternoon?” Elina leaned over and kissed Alex tenderly on the lips.

The phone started ringing again for a third time.

“I think it’s afternoon and it seems that someone really wants to talk to you.”

“Let it go to voice mail.” Elina lifted herself up and straddled Alex’s hips. “I have something else entirely on my mind.”

Her hair cascaded forward and draped over her perfect breasts. Alex reached up and lifted her hair back behind her shoulders. She wanted to see as much silky skin as possible. The phone started ringing for the fourth time.

“Hold that thought.” Elina shook her head and lifted herself off Alex.

She pulled a tank top over her head and tugged on the white fabric with one hand until it kind of covered one of her breasts. Alex propped herself up on her elbow and enjoyed the show.

“Hello,” Elina said into the phone.

“We need to put Gina Holt back in play.”

The words were slightly muffled, but that wasn’t what concerned Alex. It was the fact that the color drained out of Elina’s face. Whoever was on the phone wasn’t anyone Elina seemed to want to talk to.

“No, find someone else. I can’t go through that again.”

Alex couldn’t make out the caller’s response.

“Hang on.” Elina set the phone down and pulled on a pair of shorts. She straightened her tank top and pulled it down over her stomach. “Alex, I’ll be right back.” Elina picked the phone up and walked out of the room.

Alex dressed quickly and walked into the living room. It was quiet. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Elina was out on the back deck, pacing back and forth with the phone pressed against her ear. What she wouldn’t give to hear the conversation. Alex watched for a few more seconds and then decided to go into the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee. Once that was started, she filled the tea kettle with water and set that on the stove on high. She finally looked at a clock to see that it was three eighteen in the afternoon.
